Masks of Strife: The Faces of War

Medium: Photoshop
Time: 2022
These Starbucks coffee cups confront and challenge how we consume and engage with historical and political narratives in our daily lives.
War posters, once powerful symbols of mobilization and propaganda, are now repurposed onto coffee cups - a vessel synonymous with routine, comfort, and personal space. By embedding these stark images into such an ordinary object, the heavy subject of war becomes immediate and accessible. This approach raises questions about how we interact with historical trauma and the politics of memory in our consumer culture.
The cup serves as a canvas where the gravity of war is juxtaposed with the mundanity of daily rituals. Each cup urges viewers to consider how easily the impact of war, and those affected, has been diluted into the background noise of our everyday existence.
